This year, we structured the first page of Research this year by “pressing the acupoint” for enjoying research on the front and carefully observing the content of research on the back. The first discussion is about the recycling that occurred in the body of vertebrates when they moved from the sea to the land. |
We land-based vertebrates (quadrupeds) are the descendants of fish that lived in the sea. It is thought that one problem requiring resolution when they made the transition to life on land was how to store the calcium they used to obtain from the seawater in their bodies and maintain it at the proper concentration. Anatomy and physiology investigate the composition of the bodies of living creatures. They teach us two facts that are the keys to resolving this problem. |
Quadrupeds obtained a parathyroid gland. This solved the problem with calcium by secreting hormones. The bloodstream carries the hormones throughout the body, however, so that secretory organ should have no functional problems regardless of its location in the body. Why is the organ controlling calcium adjustment located in the neck? |
