Take a look at this work—it looks like an eyeball. It was created by Jae Eun Choi, a Korean modern artist. We go back a long way; indeed, she created this work back in 1993 during the establishment of the JT Biohistory Research Hall.
A jet black orb, illuminated around its periphery. With—what's this?—a small round hole at the center. We peep through the hole—and see a butterfly. Now look through the lens, at the center. We see a depiction of cells as they develop into the wings of the butterfly. Here, Ms. Choi depicts the relationship between the interior and exterior of life. This accords very well with one of the fundamental objectives of the BRH—expressing the underlying beauty of living things as revealed by scientific research.
