There have been many important milestones in evolutionary history. The advent of life on land is such a development, and one that has direct implications for human evolution as well. This occurred fairly early within the 400 million year history of evolution and is well illustrated by the lungfish, which came to breathe by lungs instead of gills and whose fins developed into limbs.
