Genetic recombination experiments

For the performance of genetic recombination experiments, we have established the "Biohistory Research Hall, Inc. Genetic Recombination Experiment Regulations" based on the "Act on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity through Regulations on the Use of Living Modified Organisms (2003 Law No. 97; June 18, 2003)" and "The Ministerial Ordinance Providing Containment Measures to Be Taken in Type 2 Use of Living Modified Organisms for Research and Development (2004 Ordinance No. 1 of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of the Environment; 2004)" of the Japanese government, and have established a "Genetic Recombination Experiment Safety Committee" in order to ensure that experiments are performed safely and properly.

Animal experiments

For the performance of animal experiments, in view of the nature and importance of animal experimentation in life science education and research, we have set 3R as the principles related to animal experimentation based on "Act on Welfare and Management of Animals (1973 Law 105, 2005 Law 68)", "Standards for the Care and Keeping of Laboratory Animals as well as the Reduction of Pain (Bulletin No. 88 of the Ministry of the Environment; April 28, 2006)", and "Basic Policy Regarding the Implementation of Animal Experimentation in Research Institutes, etc. (Bulletin No. 71 of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; June 1, 2006), etc., In consideration of pain levels, etc., we have established "JT Biohistory Research Hall Animal Experimentation Guidelines" and "JT Biohistory Research Hall Animal Experiment Committee Regulations", and set up the "JT Biohistory Research Hall Animal Experiment Committee, to ensure that experiments are performed properly based on scientific rationality, with respect for the lives of the animals, and keeping the concept of animal welfare always in mind.

*3R
Refinement: Animals shall not be subject to unnecessary pain.
Replacement: Alternative test methods that do not use animals shall be utilized if available.
Reduction: The number of animals used shall be the absolute minimum necessary.
